Salzburg st. Paul Pfarrkirche, 2012

Description

The Salzburg organ is an eclectic instrument with a wide range, strings in both manuals and a contemporary design of the organ case that harmonizes with the architecture of the church space.

Appearance and design

  • The cabinet is made of hand-planed solid Swedish pine.
  • The façade pipes are made of 95% hammered lead.
  • The pedal pipes are located behind the organ case.
  • The organ has 25 stops divided into two manuals and pedal.

Pipework

  • Salicional 8′ and Oboe 8′ are made of 85% tin.
  • Other metal pipes are made of 75-95% hammered lead.
  • The Oboe 8′ is inspired by a similar stop made by the Hook brothers, American organ builders active in the latter part of the 19th century.

Action

  • Suspended key action.
  • Mechanical stop action.
  • Range: manual C-d³, pedal C-d¹.

Wind system

  • The wind system consists of a bellow located in the rear part of the organ case.

Tuning

  • The organ is tuned in Kellner’s “Bach” temperament – a mild, uneven temperament that favors the most common keys.

“The organ built by Karl Nelson is an exquisite musical instrument, convincing in every respect. You won't find many instruments with comparable musical qualities, inspiring to the player, exciting to the audience. ”
